The Traditions Engagedfestival will be spotlighting Kathakali artist, Sadanam Harikumaran & Troupe. He will be performing along with his troupe on Saturday, October 2 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts at 7:00 PM. Sadanam Harikumaran was born into the lineage of Kakkad Karanavar, the legendary patron of kathakali dance.  Trained by Padmashri Keezhpadam Kumaran Nair, Sadanam Harikumaran started learning Kathakali at a very young age.  After completing his academic education as well as his artistic training, he moved to Santiniketan to teach Kathakali at Visva-Bharati University.

Sadanam Harikumaran today is an established performer, playwright and choreographer of kathakali dance and the principal of Gandhi Seva Sadan (Sadanam Kathakali Akademy).  In addition to being a Kathakali artist, Sadanam Harikumaran is also an accomplished vocalist, painter, sculptor, and designer.
